Beyond the Ordinary
"The whole world is a series of miracles, but we're so used to seeing them that we call them ordinary things." - Hans Christian Anderson
There are times in our lives when we hear about or have been witness to outstanding acts of courage, willfulness or compassion that imprint themselves on our hearts and minds as being outside the norms of our daily experiences. We are greatly inspired by these acts as well as the people that commit them, and are often ourselves compelled to action because of it. But what if we could better recognize the extraordinary moments that occur every single day?
In our practice, the expression of our wings begins at the heart. Without the powerful illumination of our centers, our wings become just one more piece of the puzzle. We are used to moving our bodies in certain patterns, and yet we don’t often think to question why we do so. Our bodies however begin to send us messages, often in the form of pain or discomfort, that urge us to rethink the status quo and relinquish underlying behaviors. Once we recognize that we are not an assortment of disparate parts but truly a walking miracle, our movements take on an even more significant cast; that when we extend our arms in an gesture of expansion it is also the light of our Radiant Hearts that we are sharing. That no matter the strength of our wings, if they are not moving in harmony with the whole we will experience friction and dissonance. And that we have the capacity to recognize these things in the first place is an example of how life constantly invites change and reinvention, and that we have the gift - every single day - of choosing to live our lives outside the ordinary.
Each of you continue to show up to your mats despite the work that it asks of us. Each of you continue to show up for yourselves, your families, friends and communities, despite the challenges that arise as a part of life; and some days that may feel like no small feat. That we are even here to do so is the matter of a miracle. So celebrate it! Allow your wings to unfurl and share your light! Instead of seeing yourself as ordinary, discover the extraordinary that resides within and let it take flight.
I’ll see you on our mats.
