Spools of Light
Make visible what, without you, might perhaps never have been seen. ~ Robert Bresson
Each of us carry a spool of light, one that unwinds day by day and leaves the threads of our individual stories trailing behind us as evidence that we have passed by. But for that light, we could be shadows passing concealed and perhaps unacknowledged; each of our unique gifts and talents going unseen.
While others in our life may encourage, advocate or maybe even cajole us to follow the paths of our inspirations, we each must do the work to reveal our innate abilities and desires and pursue our callings. Our passions may not feel like work, but we will likely have to do some to get to the place where they can sustain us. Our practice is a reminder that we are asked time and again to revisit, redo and refresh our skills. Bowspring is a calling, a willingness to show up and discover all that is possible. Our movement is a physical embodiment of these philosophies; a widening of the globes of the heart, the hips and the head to make way for the length and tone of the cores of the waist and neck. The fuller we become, the more grounded we are, the brighter the light that we can shine.
We must believe in our own lights, and we must have faith that we have the opportunity - and the responsibility - to illuminate what may otherwise remain in darkness. That without each one of us, some part of our collective story remains in the dark. So don’t give up on what makes you move, or what keeps you coming back to your mats. Because we are most certainly all brighter for it.
I look forward to seeing you all on your mats.
