Small Gestures, Big Rewards
"The level of our success is limited only by our imagination and no act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.” ~ Aesop
Can you recall the last time someone changed the course of your day with a simple gesture? It may have been a smile or a wave, or a kind word when you needed one. It could have been someone holding a door for you to pass, or pausing for you to cross the street. No gesture has to be grandiose for it to make an impact; in fact the smallest of offerings can go the longest of distances to help us feel whole.
When we first step onto our mats, we may call upon the larger, more predominant aspects of our body to get to work. Radiant Heart always helps us to establish a rhythm of mind, body and breath that prepares us for whatever is to come. We can feel the lifting quality of our inhalation and the softening attribute of our exhalation. We can feel a rooting quality to our hips and legs that readies us for action. But it is with the engagement of the finer aspects of our bodies that we become more skillful in our movements and reap the rewards of our studentship. Have you ever tried to balance without the assistance of your toes? It’s hard! Our toes enable the springy nature of our foot, the ability to dig down and push off; the freedom to jump high! Not to be underestimated, our feet are a critical component of the whole and as we refine how we ask them to participate we grow exponentially in our physical abilities. No effort is wasted! As no kindness is ever too small.
When next you are inclined to smile at a stranger, or welcome someone to move ahead of you, do so. The joy that we derive from even modest kindnesses may not just alter the course of someone else’s day, but it certainly will change yours. The smallest of gestures can lead to the most extraordinary rewards. We know this … our community is Vital.
I’ll see you on your mat.
