Our Hearts Radiant Expression

June 18, 2018

"You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it's better to listen to what it has to say."  ~ Paulo Coelho

Listen. Beneath the sound of our speaking, what are we really saying? Behind the undulation of the breath, what is being whispered? Beyond the drumbeat of our hearts, what wisdom is there? And who is hearing it? The inescapable nature of our heart is that it always has something to say, and we find our most meaningful connections - to ourselves and those around us - when we take care to hear what it is declaring.

It is not by chance that our Bowspring practice begins with the heart. Radiant Heart cannot be made by breath or body alone; it needs ingredients such as humility, wonder, desire and compassion. When the heart is full, then we add the rhythm of the breath and the movement of the body to create an expansion that is sustainable in our growth. We expand further upwards, greater in width and breadth not simply because we ask our bodies to comply physically, but because we believe that there is somewhere to go. In our fullest movements, we reach for the depths of the heart where our truest voice speaks. And with the humility that comes from understanding that we have so much further to travel, maybe we stop ignoring the whispers and instead invite them to speak more loudly.

Every time we come to our mats, we ask ourselves to trust. Our intuition, our ability to mold ourselves in postures and movement, and our strength to sustain us there. That is Radiant Heart. And each time we come back, we trust just that much more. Every moment of presence demonstrates our willingness to listen, a little more closely, to the strongest voice we have… that of our hearts. What does yours say?

I look forward to seeing each of you on your mats.
