There is a ritual to our days. From our first waking moments to how we prepare for sleep, we follow the patterns of our everyday. They are comfortable, maybe even sacred, and help us to keep an even keel as we go about our lives. So what happens when we step out of habit and into the unknown? What is our heart’s response to unpredictability and friction? What is yours?
As teachers, we often speak of how we can practice Bowspring even when we are not physically on our mats. Being tossed out of the familiar and into discomfort is just such a chance, where we get to test the bounds of our Radiant Heart practice. Do we see conflict? Chaos? Or do we see an opportunity to choose a new response? One thing that we can be sure of is that when we are thriving, our hearts and our minds grow bigger. Radiant Heart is not only the practice of physically expanding the ribcage in a widening and upwards direction, it is a show of our willingness to rise to any occasion. To see breaks in the norm in the light of positivity, and even welcome them as a way to get out of ritual and into reflection.
As our world grows bigger, our boundaries grow smaller and we have less room with which to live in pattern and habit alone. May we welcome this as a time to practice Radiant Heart; that when we step onto our mats we can still think outside their lines and reflect on all of the ways we have - and have yet to - grow.
I can’t wait to see all of you on your mats!
